A bit of inspiration...

So I am trying to clean out files on the netbook because it is running extremely slow and I came across this lovely picture...I think I pulled it because I have yellow, cream, and taupe in my family/dining room and I was looking for a bit of inspiration to change it up...(I apologize for not knowing the source, please forward that info if you recognize it!)

Look what I found!

Look at what I found in my search for wall paper today... the picture is not crystal clear but I really love this wall paper by Paper Mills...it's obviously called "zebra" in black and white...It is a great pop of pattern and it would be great in any small space! So, back to my search...

Calling all designers!

However, I am noticing some really great options out their...so many choices! Here are a few by ROMO...so for all you designers - please tell me about your favorite wall covering options bc I would love to be in the know!!!

Celebrating number 4...

Well, this post is a little dated...we celebrated Olivia's fourth birthday about a week ago and it was lots of fun! I really can't believe she is four...it has gone by so very fast!
This first pic is her look of "surprise" after opening some new cowgirl boots from my mom and dad...This is Liv giving us the "I'm four now!"
This was her entry with dad...who allowed her to slip out of the house with several pieces of my jewelry in tow!!!
It was a great party and she really enjoyed all her friends and family! Here are just a few of the elements from the party...the theme - HORSES...no, not any real ones,
but we did bring along this one which was the hit of the party!
And what is a horse theme party without new boots....and of course a pink tutu!

New! Friday Feature Item...

So, my new website went live several weeks ago...it features my design services, etc. etc.....
I am currently adding more portfolio pictures and a new "Feature Item" section, as well as "The Shop" section that will have all sorts of goodies you can purchase online. So, to connect my two sites I will be posting a feature item every friday from "The Shop". So here is a little sneak peek of what is coming tomorrow!

Conversations with a 4 year old...

Well, I am still alive...it has been hectic in our home over the last few weeks...lots and lots to post about...but I think I will start with the conversation my daughter and I had over breakfast this morning...we were eating eggs (from my dad's chicken coop) and bacon...it went something like this: (caution:do not read if you are easily offended by the word "poop")
  • me: are your eggs good?
  • Liv: yes - do eggs come from chickens?
  • Me: yes...
  • Liv: do chickens poop?
  • me: (choking on my eggs) um...yes, they do
  • Liv: do they poop in the grass?
  • me: yes
  • Liv: why do they poop in the grass?
  • me: because they are animals
  • Liv: do they wipe their bottoms?
  • me: (trying not to laugh now) no, they don't
  • Liv: why not?
  • me: because they are animals
  • Liv...pondering for just a moment...
  • Liv: did you know that horses poop?
  • me: yes
  • Liv: well, did you know that they wipe?
  • me: they do, how do they do that?
  • Liv: with their long horse tails!!!
Life is good!!!

Long day!

Long day, very tired....promise to have a fabulous post tomorrow to make up for my absence!!!

DHB Project

I am working on a family room...trying to recommend some bookcases to house lots of books, DVDs, music, etc....something to house all the things collected over the years! I am pushing my clients to organize, but more than anything EDIT their stuff. So much of what we surround ourselves with is not necessary...mostly we pick it up on the fly with little thought to how it will enhance our home or life...Here at my house, we have been "cleaning out" for the last few months in anticipation of putting our house on the market. As I have gone through this process, I recognize how many things I have brought into my life that are not things I TRULY love....so why even have it in your home....
So here is to a new goal, a new life "motto", a few tips to make your home, your life the best it can be!
  • If you don't love it...find someone who does or donate it to a local charity - whether it is a home item, clothing, accessories...etc...
  • Once you have determined the above...organize, organize, organize....have a place for everything and everything in it's place! ( I still struggle with this!) Calm and order is the rule of the day! (I struggle with this too :) )
  • Start a folder or an inspiration board - colors, fabrics, magazine pics...it can be things for your home, clothing, rooms that inspire you, objects, things you love and keep adding to it...you will start to see a trend - your own style!!! Before you decide to purchase anything, go back to that board...does it FIT with your vision....
  • Make a list of things you need (or just plan want :)) Research, look around...strive to purchase the best quality possible. Now that doesn't mean "most expensive" but it does mean try for quality over quantity - fewer things, better things, things you REALLY LOVE...
So these are just a few tips to help you along the way...I am still trying to practice them myself! I will leave you with a few of my favorite things from my inspiration board:

Fall Inspiration

Ok, I couldn't stand leaving up the "flu" post, it was just too depressing...so I wanted to post some inspiration for the day! As I went about cleaning my house this morning, I decided to open some windows to let in the fresh air and to my surprise - it felt like FALL! The air was crisp and just cool enough! Now I know it will not last - by lunch time it will be it the 80's I am sure...but I can enjoy it for now.... photos all courtesy of Martha Stewart

The flu...

Yes, the flu has hit my family....the boys that is! So far the girls are still healthy (keep praying it stays that way) David tested positive Monday and then I had to pick up Braxton from school Monday because he was running a high fever and complaining of a head ache...took him in and he tested negative for the flu and the strep but the doctor's are treating both kids with Tamiflu as a precaution....so that has been my week thus far...cleaning and washing and on,on and on....be back soon to post something more glamorous and happy!
